Couples Therapy & Coaching

Stronger relationships are built, not found.

Practical tools, healthier communication and meaningful change for couples ready to move forward together.

Real tools. New skills. A better way to do life together.

Sometimes the goal is repair. Sometimes it is prevention. Sometimes it is simply learning how to do life together better.

Learn. Practice. Grow together.

Healthy relationships aren’t something we’re simply supposed to know how to do. They’re built through skills—how to communicate clearly, navigate conflict, repair after disconnection, stay connected under stress, and work together as life changes. High-conflict? No problem!

Rather than spending our time escalating or re-litigating the same arguments, our sessions focus on identifying the real areas of tension, introducing new perspectives, and putting practical action steps in place. The goal is not simply to resolve this week’s disagreement, but to change the patterns that keep creating tension in the relationship and get you re-connected.

You don’t have to be in crisis to work on your relationship.

Some couples come in because something has broken down. Others come because they can feel distance growing, keep having the same argument, are navigating a major transition, or simply want to get better at being together.

Couples work can give you a place to slow things down, understand what is actually happening between you, and practice doing it differently—with someone helping keep the conversation productive instead of letting it spiral into the same familiar pattern.

This is not about deciding who is right. It is about helping both of you see the system you are creating together, understand your individual parts in it, and build a better way forward.

You may be working through something significant, or you may simply want stronger skills before small problems become big ones.

What They are Saying:

“We’re a business owner couple and life is busy. We came in to build skills while things are good so they stay that way. It’s like an investment in our relationship and our future. Johanna is our go -to any time we need support as individuals, a couple, and in talking through business.”

“We sure loved each other, but we had gotten really bad at being on the same team. Johanna helped us stop fighting the problem through each other and start actually solving it together. The difference at home was almost immediate. And they say you can’t teach an ol’ dog new tricks!

Enough Time to Actually Do the Work

Couples sessions are typically 90 minutes in the beginning, giving us enough time to do meaningful work without rushing.

As new skills and patterns begin to integrate, we often transition to 60-minute sessions for continued growth and maintenance. When both partners participate and do the work, meaningful change often happens in far fewer sessions than people expect.

Real tools. New skills. A better way to do life together.

A Different Kind of Couples Work

Some couples come in after years of therapy feeling as though they have talked about the same problems repeatedly and nothing has changed—or even left sessions more frustrated with one another.

Our goal is different: address the issue, understand what is happening underneath it, and leave with a plan and a sense of connection.

“We were referred to Johanna by a friend who swore she could help me and my fiancé. We had a lot of drama, but we really loved each other, so we decided to go for it. It felt like rebuilding our relationship from the ground up—but somehow it wasn’t hard. We learned how to meet in the middle, communicate in completely new ways, and actually enjoy each other again.
Now we’re that couple. When people ask us what changed, we literally say, ‘Therapized by Johanna!’ like we are the coolest. I wish everyone could learn what she teaches. Life together is so much more peaceful, connected and happy. Just easy. ”

“We were actually scared to come in because we had heard therapy meant divorce. What we found was the right space to talk, listen, learn about each other and ourselves, and ultimately build a stronger relationship. Johanna is the best! ”

Skills You Can Use Outside the Session

Couples come out of this process with stronger communication, new understandings of one another, clearer rules of engagement, and practical tools for the tricky times—when stress is high, emotions are up, and old patterns are easiest to fall back into.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s knowing how to communicate, repair, reconnect, and move forward together with more confidence and less friction.

Build the skills that make a relationship work.

Couples work is not only about solving the problem in front of you. It is about learning the skills that make everything else easier: how to communicate clearly, repair after conflict, stay connected under stress, listen without taking over, ask for what you need, set boundaries, and meet in the middle.

Those skills change the way you handle the hard moments, but they also change the everyday ones. You become better at understanding each other, making decisions together, navigating change, and staying on the same team.

You do not need to wait until something is broken. Learning how to do this well is an investment in the relationship you want to have. If something is broken, bring it in and let’s see if we can fix it, together.

Real tools. New skills. A better way to do life together.
