Frequently Asked Questions
-
Most sessions are conducted by Zoom and clients are often surprised by how effective the experience is. The flexibility and convenience allow clients to consistently engage in the work while minimizing disruptions to busy schedules.
In-person meetings may be available as needed through select executive support packages and concierge services.
-
Standard sessions are 50 minutes however we always book an hour.
Sessions are focused, active and highly personalized. Most clients find they receive a significant amount of insight, strategy and practical guidance within each appointment.
The extra 10 minutes are used to review key takeaways, identify action steps and discuss next steps before scheduling the following appointment.
-
The work is intentionally integrated and builds off of Solution-Focused Therapy.
Therapy helps create deeper understanding, identify patterns and address the underlying factors that may be contributing to challenges.
Coaching focuses on the present and future by developing practical skills, creating action steps and building accountability.
Consulting allows us to examine the broader systems influencing your life, relationships, leadership, family, career and decision-making.
Most sessions naturally incorporate elements of all three. The goal is creating alignment across the different areas of your life so that meaningful and lasting change becomes possible.
-
Perfect.
Most clients do.
It is common for challenges at work to affect relationships at home, and for personal stress to impact leadership, confidence, communication and decision-making.
Together we identify what is creating the most pressure, build greater clarity and bandwidth, strengthen boundaries, improve communication and develop a clear plan for moving forward.
As things become more aligned, life often feels significantly more manageable.
-
No.
Clients are always welcome to schedule one session at a time.
That said, most meaningful change takes time and repetition. For that reason, I often recommend approximately six to eight sessions to establish a strong foundation and create momentum toward your goals.
Some clients accomplish what they need in a relatively short period of time. Others continue working together for months or years as new goals, challenges and opportunities arise.
There is no required commitment.

I am honest, authentic, direct, kind and compassionate in my approach. When a client comes to me it’s because something isn’t working, or needs to change. My job is to provide the feedback and tools that will help create a new normal, starting session one, while supporting the journey along the way. I give homework, action steps, we roll play and make big mindset shifts.
I also asked a client for this answer and here is what she said:
“Johanna is someone who can make you laugh, even through heavy topics. She always turns the lights on in my head. She helped me navigate struggles in marriage, parenting, friendships, and a drastic career change. She gets to the root of your problems quickly and gives you tools you need to forward in areas you are stuck. Sessions feel like you are talking to someone who genuinely cares while also somehow knowing exactly the right questions to ask. Johanna is insightful, kind, and incredibly good at what she does.”

I have been in practice since 2015.
In addition to clinical work, I have spent years training City of Austin employees, leadership teams and professional organizations, as well as speaking and providing education at conferences and professional events.
My experience spans therapy, coaching, leadership development, communication training and consulting, as well as owning my own businesses.
-
Absolutely.
Many executives, business owners, entrepreneurs and professionals seek support not because something is wrong, but because they want a confidential space to think clearly, strengthen skills and navigate complex situations.
Nothing exists in isolation. Professional challenges influence personal life, and personal stress inevitably impacts professional performance.
Many executive clients use sessions to discuss whatever the week brings—leadership challenges, communication issues, relationship dynamics, decision-making, career transitions, stress management or strategic planning.
The focus is helping you become more effective, intentional and aligned across all areas of life.
-
Not at all.
Some couples seek support because they are struggling with communication, trust or recurring conflict. Others are doing well and simply want to strengthen their relationship, improve communication and continue growing together.
I work with couples recovering from infidelity, couples preparing for major life transitions, couples building businesses together and couples who simply want to invest in their relationship proactively.
The goal is not to decide whether a relationship should continue. The goal is to help couples communicate more effectively, understand one another more clearly and make thoughtful decisions about their future.
Sometimes that leads to a stronger relationship. Sometimes it leads to a healthier transition. Both outcomes can be successful.
-
Yes.
In fact, many clients begin exactly there.
The work helps create clarity, identify what matters most and develop practical steps for moving forward.
When people feel stuck, the problem is often not a lack of intelligence or motivation. More often, they are carrying too many competing priorities, responsibilities, expectations or stressors at once.
Together we simplify the noise, identify priorities and create a realistic path forward.

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I am qualified to diagnose mental health conditions when clinically appropriate.
However, much of my work focuses on practical skill-building, communication, emotional regulation, relationship dynamics, leadership development and personal growth rather than diagnostic labels.
I do not prescribe medication.
If a medical evaluation or psychiatric consultation would be beneficial, I can provide referrals to trusted colleagues and specialists.

Sessions are $400 each.
Package rates and concierge services are available upon request.
Why Invest?
Because the cost of staying stuck is often far greater.
Most people don't seek support because one area of life isn't working. They come because stress at work is affecting home, relationship challenges are impacting confidence, communication has broken down, or they know they are capable of more but aren't sure how to get there.
The goal isn't simply to feel better. The goal is to create meaningful change.
Clients invest in stronger relationships, clearer communication, better decision-making, healthier boundaries, greater confidence and a more effective way of navigating life.
For many people, that becomes one of the highest-return investments they ever make.
-
No two clients are the same, so no single approach works for everyone.
My work draws from several evidence-based models, including Solution-Focused Therapy, Adlerian Therapy, Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), neuroscience-informed interventions and other practical, research-supported approaches.
Rather than strictly following one model, I integrate techniques based on your unique goals, challenges and circumstances.
The focus is always the same: helping clients better understand themselves, strengthen communication, improve relationships, build practical skills and create meaningful, lasting change.
In many ways, the approach is less about choosing a specific modality and more about using the right tools, strategies and insights to help you move forward effectively.

Yes! Many of my young professionals use their Health Savings Accouts to pay. Any debit or credit cards are accepted.

I do not take insurance, however, I am an out of network provider and many of my clients submit to their insurance and get reimbursed - of course that varies by insurance company. I provide you with a superbill and you submit directly.
-
I am everyone friendly. Religion, orientation, race, culture - none of it matters to me - other than to help inform your perspective and my understanding of it. Everyone is welcome and safe in my chair!!!
